Union League Affinity Club reaches investments of $7.75 million since inception
(Philadelphia, PA) February 16, 2022 – Broad Street Angels (BSA), an angel investment group and affinity club of the Union League of Philadelphia, held its annual meeting on Wednesday February 16, 2022 to announce its annual results. BSA members invested over $1.68 million in 2021 funding 6 new investments and 4 existing portfolio companies.
Craig Mills, President of the Board of Directors of the Union League, opened the meeting to almost 70 attendees. “I am so happy to recognize the contributions The Broad Street Angels have made to support the Union League’s ideals of free enterprise through angel investments into our regional entrepreneurial eco-system.”
“We had record attendance this year with our members, portfolio company CEOs and venture capital groups. Since we were formed 5 years ago, and over 2 years of the pandemic, our members have invested in some great high growth companies in the Philadelphia region with nearly $8 million worth of investment,” said RoseAnn Rosenthal, Chair of the Broad Street Angels and Managing Director of the Innovation Space’s First Fund.
New investments in 2021 include:
DreamVu -The leader in onmi-directional 3D vision systems that leverages patented optics and imaging software to enable the next generation of visual intelligence.
Lula – Lula provides delivery solutions for convenience stores, pharmacies and CPG brands by offering the first multi-vendor, 30-minute delivery platform.
Strados Labs – A medical tech company which developed a lung sound monitor and connected platform that enables doctors to identify abnormal breathing patterns
Sweft – A proven SaaS solution comprised of retail-specific modules that cover each step in the workflow of the digital asset creation process.
Wonder Natural Foods – Consumer products company that makes a patented peanut butter spread with 50% fewer calories, 85% less fat, 33% less sugar than traditional PB with no trans fat and no palm oil.
SlyceData Corp – A data aggregator for the financial investment research market.
Add on investments were made into Seneca Therapeutics, NeuroFlow, ROAR For Good and Houwzer.
In addition, a panel discussion to hear about the latest venture trends was held with 5 leading venture capitalists from the region and moderated by BSA Member Doc Parghi of SRI Capital. Participating on the panel were: Nate Lentz-Managing Partner of Osage Venture Partners, Scott Nissenbaum-CEO of Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern PA, Saul Richter-Managing Partner of Rittenhouse Ventures, Stephen Socolof-Managing Partner of Tech Council Ventures, and Brett Topche-Managing Director of Red & Blue Ventures.
Since its first member meeting in 2017, the Broad Street Angels have invested approximately $7.75 million in 29 companies.
