ANGEL INVESTING CLUB AT THE UNION LEAGUE MORE THAN DOUBLES ITS FIRST YEAR ACTIVITY WITH OVER $2.24 MILLION INVESTED IN 2018

(Philadelphia, PA)  RoseAnn B. Rosenthal, chair of the Broad Street Angels, the angel investing affinity club at the Union League of Philadelphia, gave her annual report regarding the club’s second year (2018) of activity at its January meeting.  She reported that in 2018, members made investments in seven regional companies for a total of $2.244 million.  According to Ms. Rosenthal, “I’m pleased to see that our dynamic brand as a serious and active player is becoming more widely known in the regional angel investing community leading to a larger number of higher quality opportunities becoming available to our members.”

According to Rosenthal, Companies in which investments were made in 2017 include: (in alphabetical order)

– eureQa

– Houwzer

– Mytonomy

– Social Ladder

– Stel

– Zive

– ZSX

Rosenthal noted that during 2018, over 300 companies applied through the club’s Website, broadstreetangels.com, to be considered for an invitation to make a presentation at our monthly meetings.  Once an application has been received, the deal review team considers the company and invites only 3 companies to present to its members each month.  In 2018, more than 30 companies were invited to make presentations.  Once the presentation has been made, interested members voluntarily decide to form deal teams and take a closer look, undertaking a deal due diligence process, before deciding to invest or not.

The Broad Street Angels begins 2019, its third year, with 91 members, making it one of the largest angel investing groups in the region.  In order to qualify to become a member of the Broad Street Angels, one must also be a member of the Union League.

In addition to investing and deal review, the club also provides an angel investing educational initiative for its members and for members of the Union League.  In 2018, its robust educational calendar was highlighted by having legendary investor, Mort Grosser, speak at its May meeting.
